When you love yourself enough to stand in your truth, no matter what the cost, everyone benefits – Jen Sincero

I came across this in the book I was reading for my February Book Club and a thousand thoughts started racing. The first was WOW. How beautiful would this world be if each and every person was confident in loving themselves enough to stand in, speak and share their truth? How much more awesome would it be if there was no cost to it?

When I say cost, I don’t mean necessarily mean money. Relationships, time, headspace, there are many types of currency and each moment and person deals in different ones. In my experience, the most common currency out there is time. Yes I understand you pay for things with money, but allow me to blow the lid off the box you currently reside in.

If you’re at a point on your journey where some relationships don’t make sense anymore and you know in your heart of hearts that it’s time to move on, do it. Love those people where they’re at and release them with peace and gratitude. No it doesn’t mean you need to announce it on your Facebook page like “Congratulations you’ve made the friend list cleaning cut!” because if you know anyone that’s even a little bit like me, that’s a great way to get yourself unfollowed and unfriended. No, you don’t need to tweet out a message that says “Friendship Vacancies: Inquire within! #needanewBFF “. Most will care A LOT less than you do. And in the cases where the relationship has run its course, they likely won’t even notice for a while, if they ever do. Foster relationships with people that make you want to be bigger, better. Cultivate relationships with people that are where you want to be, the ones doing the things you dream of doing. Spend your time with people that inspire you to be brave, courageous and get shit done.

Any thought that travels through your brain takes up headspace. There’s only so much real estate up there so ask yourself what’s taking up the million dollar beach front property. Is that particular thought worthy of such beautiful land? When you continuously and consistently do the work to keep your mind connected to your soul and the Universe (or whatever you’d prefer to call the spirit or energy that you tap into. I call it the Universe because that’s what’s meaningful to me. Please call it whatever resonates with you.) you are fully, 1,000,000,000% capable of having those things in your living, breathing world. Your thoughts create and dictate your world (that’s what I like to refer to as a total #truthbomb). Are you wasting time wondering how the hell you’re ever going to be able to spend 6 months of the year on a beach or do you have faith that the Universe will provide the opportunity and get to work making it so. Maybe you want to write books or blogs from a vineyard in Tuscany. Create it in your mind, right down to the very last detail and then surrender it to the Universe and start taking action. Stop wasting time on the nasty, petty thoughts that serve no purpose in your world. If you’re going to tell yourself a story, you might as well make it a good one.

Then we have the almighty Time. You’ve obviously heard the phrase “spending time” yes? This is a tricky currency because once it’s been spent, you can’t get a refund. So let me ask you this: What do you spend the best hours of your day doing? Watching TV? Talking on the phone? Window shopping for all the things you wish you could have? Maybe you do nothing, just watch the world go by? How and where to spend your time is a choice and that choice is like a muscle. The more you exercise making great choices on how to spend your time, the stronger that muscle gets and the better the choices become. That’s not to say that any of the other things are bad, but so many of us spend the best hours of our best days doing menial things that won’t take us in the direction we desire. We waste the time and at the end of the day get mad at ourselves for not doing the things that we know we should have done instead. Quite the vicious cycle, isn’t it? So the next time you’re trying to figure out what to do with your time, consider what you’re exchanging. The choice here is growth or stagnation. Remaining in the same spot or advancing a few steps. Once time has been spent, it becomes a fond memory or maybe even a regret. If you really don’t know what to do, my advice is do SOMETHING, anything that will bring you even one step closer to who you want to be and what you want to have. Or maybe try one of these: Smile at a stranger to make their day better. Cuddle with your kids, even if they don’t seem interested at first. Do one of the things on your list that you have convinced yourself is too hard to do. Pick up that book and read it. Call someone important to you and tell them how they create value in your world. Take a chance on you and believe with every ounce of your being that you are worth it. Tell yourself how much you love you. This is time well spent.

Your personal truth can be a hard thing to figure out. Spend time getting to know yourself so well that you can follow your gut instincts. We all have them,but not everyone listens to them. When you pay close attention, you will be guided to everything you’re destined for. It’s all about having faith in the things that you can’t yet see. Just don’t forget to get to work once you have the vision in your mind. The Universe won’t drop it in your lap. Go out, be on purpose and the necessary things you need will be put in your path.

Not everyone will understand your truth and please go into all of this knowing that it’s ok. It’s not for them to understand. You will face conflict, probably some poo-poo naysayers and that family member that looks at you like you’ve lost your damn mind. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying (and forgive me because I don’t know who to quote for it) ‘I used to care what other people thought, until I tried to pay my bills with their opinions.’ (there’s another #truthbomb for ya) Repeat after me: THIS IS NOT THEIR JOURNEY. THEY DON’T HAVE TO GET IT. Just because you discover your truth doesn’t mean it’s then your sole purpose to push that on anyone else. Allow others the space, time and opportunity to discover it for themselves. Whether or not they do the work to find out isn’t on you. That’s their choice.

Payments are due every single day, so ask yourself ‘What currency am I using today?’ Go forth with boldness. Stand tall and proud as the you-est you there ever will be.
